Ankle Arthroscopy Arthroscopy (a “scope”) has been used more and more in the last few years to treat many conditions inside the ankle joint that previously required a more extensive surgery. Arthroscopy in the ankle joint is performed with small incisions, one on each side of the joint. A small camera is inserted through one incision and tiny instruments are inserted through the other incision. Bone spurs, arthritis, cartilage damage, painful lesions, fractures, and other conditions are treated well utilizing an arthroscopy procedure.
The alternative is to open up the ankle joint with a large incision to treat the pathology. This usually results in a painful scar and longer recovery times. Arthroscopy allows for two small incisions and a quicker, less painful recovery.
I have extensive training and experience in this intricate procedure. Let me know if you might be a candidate for this procedure.
